Progressive Rep. Lynn Woolsey to Retire
Joy of joys: My ultra liberal congresswoman is retiring!
From Reuters:
U.S. Representative Lynn Woolsey said on Monday she will retire after two decades in office, the first of California’s congressional delegation calling it quits since a plan was drafted to radically redraw the state’s electoral districts.
The 10-term Democrat, who represents Marin and Sonoma counties north of San Francisco, called the proposed boundary changes to her district “silly” but said that had nothing to do with her decision not to seek reelection in 2012.
And so the Congressional Progressive Caucus will lose one of its long-time members. Woolsey coasted into Barbara Boxer’s old district seat in 1993 and, despite lackluster public speaking skills and not actually representing anything but anti-war values, managed to win reelection nine times. I’m convinced my fellow voters in beautiful Sonoma County are just too juiced up on good wine and the latest allergy medication to actually apply common sense to their political perspectives.
Redistricting will be hitting this NorCal district pretty severely in the near future. One could reason that Woolsey just isn’t up to traveling what will be a much larger district, with new constituents not familiar with her shenanigans. The fact is, this career politician is so out of touch with average Americans, that even now, while the rest of the country is concerned with the trillion dollar federal deficit, she continues to introduce bills that seem to be straight out of the women’s movement of the 1960s. Woolsey was also one of the 13 House members who voted against cutting their own salaries and expense accounts by a measly 5% this year.
Nevertheless, the bottom line is: Woolsey is out. And, so far, at least one of her socialist, anti-war-at-all-costs colleagues is making his move for the seat. Here’s hoping Northern California wakes up to the economic problems in this country, let alone this state, and demands the kind of economic prosperity that only capitalist-loving, free-market ideals can bring us.
Happy retirement, Rep. Woolsey.
May it be a long one.
